As an organization whose mission is to address all forms of trauma to promote human welfare, the Trauma Division of the American Psychological Association (Division 56) stands in solidarity with #BlackLivesMatter and denounces all forms of racism, discrimination, and violence against Black individuals and communities. The recent killings of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, Eric Garner, and Philando Castile equate to just a fraction of the totality of our 400-year history of oppression and killing of Black individuals in the United States. We commit to working within our Division and across organizations to dismantle all forms of systemic racial inequities, discrimination and oppression, and to protect and elevate the lives of all Black individuals.
